Papers consisting primarily of correspondence and reports relating to medical supplies, effects of deceased soldiers, and hospital matters, collected while Dr. John B. G. Baxter served as Brigade Surgeon and Medical Purveyor of the Department of the Shenandoah at Frederick, Maryland (1862) and later as Surgeon in Charge at Barracks U.S. General Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana (1863-1865). Also included are genealogical records of the Lambert family and Sherwood family legal papers.
